Spain, the most popular destination for Brits to buy abroad

It is not all bad news for the Spanish Property Market, clearly reflected in a chart published by A Place in the Sun which shows that Spain is still the No 1 choice for 2011. Voted No1 by the same survey in 2010 Spain is still the most popular destination for British when buying abroad.
After all, Spain still has all the ingredients to be a perfect choice: excellent access from the UK, the sun, sea, culture and infrastructure.
There really are some great deals to be had offering great value and we are also really excited about our tie-up with Mediterranean (the ever-so reluctant real estate arm of the CAM bank).
The deep discounts on summer homes mean that there are a multitude of destinations and property for you to chose that Place in the Sun in 2011 and we will be updating those properties available which we genuinely feel offer significant value for money.

Update on Spanish Property Prices - December 2010

The most relevant information regarding property prices in Spain now that we are in a new month / year.
  • The average asking price for resale property in Spain is 2.262 Euros per square meter, which equates to a decrease of 0,6 % in relation to November.
  • The annual variation (Dec. 2009 – Dec. 2010) registered a decline of 3,8%
  • The index of the real estate portal fotocasa.es, with a base of 1.000 in January 2005, is now situated at 943 puntos
Prepared by the IESE Business School, the fotocasa.es Real Estate Index aims to be the benchmark in the evolution of house prices in Spain. To perform the analysis the average house price in January 2005 has been used to provide an initial value of 1,000 points. The fotocasa.es Real Estate Index reflects the trend of the market based on the asking price and not the final sales price.

The indications are that in general, asking prices in Spain are below the asking prices of January 2005, and the final sales price may be another 10 to 20% below the asking price.

On a positive note, prices in our local market, the North Costa Blanca (Marina Baixa) are showing a recovery since the middle of 2010, as can be seen with the table below showing the asking prices for Benidorm throughout 2010.

I really don't want a For Sale sign on my property. It's none of my neighbours business if I'm selling my house.

With all due respect, you are incorrect.  It is in your best interest to have as many people as possible know that your house is for sale.  No one can buy it, if they don't know it's available.  With God-knows how many homes currently on the market, we need to take advantage of any form of advertising we can.

First, let's deal with the neighbour issue.  Your neighbour may be just the person to help sell your house.  Think about it:  Since they already like the neighborhood, they are more likely to suggest to friends or acquaintances there's a house for sale in their neighborhood.  You want, and need, all the "advertising" you can get.  Ir your neighbours can see your house for sale, they may know someone looking to buy, and just perhaps, they might like your house.  Most people would like to help choose their new neighbors!

Many potential buyers begin their search by driving around neighborhoods they like, looking for real estate signs.  Sure, most people today begin their search for a new home online.  But, many are still taking a weekend drive through communities they like, taking note of the homes they see with real estate signs.  We regularly receive a phonecall on the spot, to get more info.  Can you/we afford to miss that chance?

Our goal is to sell your home in the shortest amount of time, on terms which make you happy. Along with a great marketing plan, having a sign in the yard will help us to do just that!
