MACA is the abbreviation given to Alicante´s Museum of Modern Art which was opened last week.
In the centre of the city the seventeenth century La Asegurada Palace has been refurbished and it was here that the opening ceremony took place.
There are almost 5000 square metres of space,distributed across four exhibition halls,a library and 200 people capacity auditorium.
Two of the exhibition halls are displaying work by the Alicante artists Eusebio Sempere and Juana Frances.
The third hall has twentieth century artists and the fourth hall will be home to temporary exhibitions.Artists of the twentieth century include Spanish artists and many other foreign sculptors and painters.They include Picasso,Dali,Chillida,Millares,Joan Miro,Kandinsky,Chagall and Vasarely.
This project has taken 6 years to complete and it has cost 11 million euros.The regional president Francisco camps was present at the opening ceremony plus Alicante´s mayor and the Provincial President.
