The skyscrapers keep getting higher in Benidorm and three years from now, the highest residential block in Europe will be finished. After one year of moving earth and laying foundations, to a depth of 17 metres, the In Tempo building now boasts signs of life and the first three floors are visible. Last week, a mini celebration took place to commemorate the first anniversary of work starting on the site. Also worth celebrating is the fact that nearly 50% of the project is sold already, and that in the current economic crisis. The dimensions of the skyscraper are impressive, with it due to reach 200 metres in height, distributed over 55 floors and two towers that will be joined by a central piece in where the most expensive properties will be located (approx 6000 Euros per square metre). Such properties will cost 2.4 million euros. The current highest residencial block in Benidorm is Torre Lugano which actually rises 220 metres above sea level as it is located on the side of the Sier...
Villajoyosa - a hidden gem
Villajoyosa has recently been picked up by some of the major travel publications and highlighted as one of the places to be in 2024, in fact the number one place to be! I will share the links to the articles below so you can read for yourself, but it has spurred me on to write a few words too about this pretty little town located in between Alicante and Benidorm. Villajoyosa has several sandy beaches, with the Playa Centro and Playa Torres being very popular and personal favourites of mine, plus some stunning bays to explore, including Bol Nou, Paradis and Racó de Conill. Being a fishing village, the food as you would expect is superb, I have ate fish a n...
Wine tasting at Enrique Mendoza
I recently paid a visit to one of the many local bodegas in the Alicante area, Enrique Mendoza in Alfaz del Pi. It was a lovely surprise to receive the gift of a wine tasting event from my amazing wife, and so we arrived at the event just in time, starting at 12:00 prompt with our guide from the bodega. We started with a short discussion on the history of this family winery, how it grew from a small operation in Alfaz del Pi, and then outgrew Alfaz del Pi and bought up hectares of land in Villena, inland of Alicante and approximately 100 kms from Alfaz. Then a visit to see the storage and the bottling facilities (which are still managed in Alfaz) and of course the best bit, the tasting. Blessed by the good weather in early January, drinking a wine with the sun on your face, stunning surroundings, make sure you visit too! Seven wines, a selection of white and red and a sweet wine to finish, all were amazing and we were encouraged to drink and enjoy them, no s...
