Hello and to start off, its been a while since you've last heard from me, but I've been busy as always, as well as packing two daughters off to two different universities (one in Madrid and one in Barcelona which will make the "El Clasico" football match coming up in two weeks time very interesting).
Anyway inflation and now interest rates are rearing their ugly heads throughout Europe, and will mean no doubt a bit of a slowdown here in Spain. Yet there is still a lack of supply of good quality resale homes, especially in the more desirable areas, close to the coast, good views, outside space, etc so prices remain high for the time being.
And there is still a lot of demand. The Mediterranean coastline is showing incredible growth in numbers, whether it be in the number of new build licences issued, or the actual volume of purchases registered, which in 2021 was 166,800 transactions, up 17,3% on 2019 (2020 numbers are not recorded due to Covid).
So demand is still out there, people still want to come to this beautiful region of Spain, some for longer than others. It will be interesting to see how the digital nomad visa progresses as over the coming cooler months would be the perfect time to escape the colder confines of northern Europe and work from a laptop in the sun.
I think it would be fair to say that most real estate agents had a good start to this year, plenty of buyers around and the worst of the pandemic had passed, and buyers were spending more perhaps realising how important outdoor space is. Supply is still low though, when viewing its a handful of homes to view, not a list. We will have to wait and see what longer term effect the interest rate rises will have.

The skyscrapers keep getting higher in Benidorm and three years from now, the highest residential block in Europe will be finished. After one year of moving earth and laying foundations, to a depth of 17 metres, the In Tempo building now boasts signs of life and the first three floors are visible. Last week, a mini celebration took place to commemorate the first anniversary of work starting on the site. Also worth celebrating is the fact that nearly 50% of the project is sold already, and that in the current economic crisis. The dimensions of the skyscraper are impressive, with it due to reach 200 metres in height, distributed over 55 floors and two towers that will be joined by a central piece in where the most expensive properties will be located (approx 6000 Euros per square metre). Such properties will cost 2.4 million euros. The current highest residencial block in Benidorm is Torre Lugano which actually rises 220 metres above sea level as it is located on the side of the Sier...
Villajoyosa has recently been picked up by some of the major travel publications and highlighted as one of the places to be in 2024, in fact the number one place to be! I will share the links to the articles below so you can read for yourself, but it has spurred me on to write a few words too about this pretty little town located in between Alicante and Benidorm. What strikes you first is that Villajoyosa is a busy little town which has retained a lot of its character, with the colourful fisherman cottages that line the seafront being the perfect example - the different colours allowing the fishermen to navigate home quickly after long stretches, or perhaps when the weather wasn't so kind. Villajoyosa has several sandy beaches, with the Playa Centro and Playa Torres being very popular and personal favourites of mine, plus some stunning bays to explore, including Bol Nou, Paradis and Racó de Conill. Being a fishing village, the food as you would expect is superb, I have ate fish a n...
Miguel Marina, who became famous overnight a few weeks ago because he was raffling his apartment in Ciempozuelos (Madrid) at five Euros a ticket, has called-off the raffle. He will return the money to all the participants because he cannot afford the 48,000 Euros that he would have had to pay to the National State Lottery and the Betting Commission before beginning the drawing. When your luck is down....................................
